Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Her family is the fourth Roberts family that lived in Atlanta. It started with her grandfather John Pendleton Roberts who was a farm. Her father took keen interest from a young age in the theater. When he was an undergraduate at Emory University, he performed in several productions in Atlanta. He joined the air force in 1953. While working in Biloxi Mississippi, he was a part of an army production that featured Betty Lou Bredemus who was also in the air force. Both married in 2005 and welcomed their first child, Eric Anthony in 1956. Walter attended Tulane University at New Orleans In 1957, the city of Louisiana where the couple left the Air Force of the United States. Walter began his work at Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. Walter as well as Betty Lou produced a Saturday morning local television show for kids called Bum Bum and His Buddies in 1964. It was a venture they self-financed. The following year, they started The Actors and Writers Workshop which ran for a period of six years. They had two more children, Lelisa Billingsley (1965) (also called Lisa) as well as Julia Billingsley (1967) (also known by the same name Julie).
